Although there is no legislation that regulates the use of air conditioning in our homes in Mallorca, there is legislation that regulates its use in the workplace. Specifically, Spain Royal Decree 1826/2009 establishes that in a heated workplace, the set temperature may not be less than 21ºC. On the other hand, in refrigerated workplaces, the established temperature may not exceed 26ºC. These scales that the law indicates, have been established on criteria of thermal comfort. For this reason, they can be a good recommendation when setting the temperature in our home air conditioning.
In addition, another law in Spain, known as RITE (Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings), determines that the recommended operating temperature is from 21ºC to 23ºC in winter and from 24ºC to 26ºC in summer. These intervals are considered the most energy efficient and comfortable temperatures for people.
In addition, it is necessary to point out that the less thermal difference there is between the real temperature of a room and the temperature selected in your air conditioning, will mean less electricity consumption generated. For this reason, to use the air conditioning efficiently it will be necessary to follow the RITE recommendations and choose to set moderate, responsible and efficient temperatures.
